In der neuen Ausgabe des Online Journals Forum Qualitative Research (FQS) befindet sich ein Artikel über qualitative Datenanalyse, QDA mit NVivo: A Software-Assisted Qualitative Content Analysis of News Articles: Example and Reflections. Zitat aus dem Abstract: “This article offers a step-by-step description of how qualitative data analysis software can be used for a qualitative content analysis of newspaper articles.” Für alle, die mit NVivo bzw. inhaltsanalytisch arbeiten, sicher sehr zu empfehlen. Und ebenfalls im Abstract zu finden ist der folgende Hinweis, den wir von SoSciSo ebenfalls unterstützen und hin und wieder, gerne auch mantraartig, wiederholen: “[…] while qualitative data analysis software, such as NVivo, will not do the analysis for the researcher, it can make the analytical process more flexible, transparent and ultimately more trustworthy.“

Wir haben soeben einen neuen Eintrag in unserer Datenbank vorgenommen: CLAN (Computerized Language ANalysis) ist ein Programm zur Analyse im CHAT System transkribierter Daten. Das CHAT Format wurde u.a. im Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES) Projekt eingesetzt. In diesem Rahmen ist die Software auch entstanden, sie wurde von Leonid Spektor an der Carnegie Mellon University entwickelt.

Wer sollte CLAN verwenden?

Wieso sollte man nun CLAN verwenden. Dazu ein Zitat der Autoren aus dem sehr ausführlichen Manual: “If you are a researcher studying conversational interaction, language learning, or language disorders, you will want to learn to use CLAN, because it will help you address basic research questions and explore many different language types. If you are a clinician, CLAN can help you analyze data from individual clients and compare them against a large database of similar transcripts.”

Technische Voraussetzungen

Das Programm ist für Windows, Mac und Linux sowie generell Unix-basierte Systeme erhältlich und frei verfügbar. Außerdem muss man sich noch Quicktime installieren. Der Quellcode für Unix und Linux enthält allerdings noch nicht den CLAN Editor.

Annotations for Mac – eine für den Mac erschienene und recht einfach gehaltene Software für die qualitative Datenanalyse. Ein kurzes Einführungsvideo gibt einen kurzen Einblick in die angebotenen Funktionen – recht überschaubar. Wieso man für die Software 30 Dollar hinlegen soll, ist uns auf den ersten Blick nicht ganz klar geworden, zu überschaubar ist die Funktionalität von Annotations. Annotations for MacKlar, die meisten QDA-Programme werden für Windows angeboten, jedoch gibt es auch Programme für den Mac bzw. als Web-Variante. Naja, vielleicht überraschen uns die Entwickler in nächster Zeit noch mit neuen Funktionen.

New: EasyTranscript

Die Transkriptionssoftware EasyTranscript wurde gerade in unsere Datenbank aufgenommen und das wurde auch Zeit, vielen Dank Christian für den Tip. EasyTranscript ist für alle gängigen Plattformen (Lin, Mac, Win) erhältlich und wird unter einer OpenSource-Lizenz verbreitet, d.h. ihr könnt es Euch ohne Kosten herunterladen und nutzen. Das Programm erinnert sehr stark an das alte F4, welches bis zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt auch noch kostenlos erhältlich war. EasyTranscript bringt alle Funktionen mit, die man für das einfache Interviewtranskribieren so braucht: eine einfache Audiosteuerung, ein einfacher Editor, anpassbare Tastenkürzel für sich wiederholenden Textteile (verschiedene Codes oder Namen der Interviewpersonen) und vor allem ist die Oberfläche nicht überladen und möglichst einfach gehalten, weswegen es eben auch stark an F4 erinnert. So wie es aussieht, hat hiermit EasyTranscript F4 als unsere Transkriptionssoftware der Wahl abgelöst.

Außerdem neu in unserer Datenbank: SequenceViewer, ein QDA Programm aus den Niederlanden, frei verfügbar, allerdings nur für den Mac. Danke an Wil Dijkstra, den Entwickler, für den Tip.

Transana 2.60 released

Already in January, a new version of Transana was released: Transana 2.60, a software for qualitative analysis and transkription. The developers statement:

The latest version of Transana allows researchers to bring still images into their qualitative analyses in several interesting ways. Features include:

– capturing images from video or importing graphics files from the hard disk

– selecting the size and framing to emphasize part of an image

– adding “coding shapes”, allowing reseachers to code images by drawing on them

– linking still images to particular places in video files, if appropriate for providing context

– including still images in Transana’s Reports and, if linked to media files, Transana’s Maps.
